Winstep Nexus is a very cool software package with which you can add a Mac-style Dock to Windows, from XP to 11. That software has both freeware and paid versions. The freeware package retains all the animated mouse and live icon effects from Nexus Ultimate. Here is how you can install the freeware Winstep Nexus:
RocketDock is a Mac OS dock inspired application launcher that stays along the top edge of your screen. By default, it shows the shortcuts to basic folders, rocketdock settings and recycle bin. But you can customize it and add even more shortcuts as you desire. You can customize its looks by choosing from preset color schemes. You can also customize its position, behavior and auto-hide feature.
If you want to add a new shortcut to an app or folder, then just drag and drop it on the RocketDock bar. You can also right-click on the RocketDock and choose Add Item from the context menu to add a new shortcut to a file or folder. You can also add special items like separater, blank icon or the quit button etc. Similarly, you can right-click on an icon in the RocketDock and delete it by choosing Delete Item from the menu. From this right-click context menu you can also quickly toggle auto-hide feature on or off, open dock settings or change the dock position.
If you sometimes boot up your Windows PC only to spend an eternity trying to find what you are looking for amongst endless icons, it might be time for a cleanse. Here are a couple of great programs to give you a clean tidy Mac-like experience and organize some of that clutter.
RocketDock is an App/Program launcher or icon dock, for Windows that can be set up and displayed on any side of your desktop screen, top, bottom, left or right. Its design is based on the Mac OS X launcher. It stores your desktop icons and shortcuts that you use to launch programs and open files. Apart from this RocketDock is also very customisable, which you will see a little later on.
When you have completed the installation of RocketDock, you will have to open it manually, as it does not auto-launch the first time around. Once you have launched RocketDock it will be displayed at the top of your screen in the always on top position. On first installing, it looks quite ugly but with a few icons and some fine tuning you can make it look quite attractive.
With your new icons placed into the icon folder, you can now begin to change them. Simply right-click on the icon in RocketDock and choose "Icon Settings". Now from the left-hand menu, you can select the icons folder if you placed an entire folder into the directory. Or if you just placed an individual icon into the directory it will be in the main window to select.
Adding icons to the Dock is also quite easy, the best method is to just drag a shortcut from your desktop into the dock then customise the icon how you wish. You also have the option to create an icon directly from RocketDock by right-clicking on the dock going down to "Add" and selecting "Blank Icon". If you choose this method you will have to set the path of the file you wish RocketDock to open.
That pretty much sums up how to use RocketDock, one last thing you can do to hide the non-removable icon from your windows desktop is to right-click on your desktop go to view and select hide desktop icons. If you do get stuck with anything feel free to ask at the bottom in the comments section. If you decided to choose ObjectDock the process is going to be very similar.
But when I run that last line, actually getting the track name, an application appears in the dock, and doesn't leave until I close my Python program, whether I'm running it in the REPL or as a script. The icon is this one, at least on my machine:
The RocketDock gallery had a thriving community where users could upload and share skins, icons, docklets, wallpapers and other customization resources for the application. However, PunkLabs closed the RocketDock gallery on 6 August, 2018. Visiting the link now redirects to the official site of the developers of RocketDock, where a download for RocketDock is available.
You can easily add shortcuts to programs, files, documents, folders, and even actions to the dock. The look of the dock is customizable using themes and icons. Docklets are available to help extend the functionality of your dock.
A dock displays at the top of your screen with some default icons, which are shortcuts with PNG images as icons. By default, common folders including My Computer, My Documents, Network Places, My Music, My Pictures, and Control Panel. The Recycle Bin is also available on the dock.
Right-click anywhere on the dock or the icons to display a popup menu for RocketDock that includes options such as Icon Settings, Dock Settings, AutoHide, and Lock Items. The Screen Position item displays additional options so you can choose to which part of the screen you would like to anchor the dock (top, bottom, left, or right edges). The Lock Items option locks the dock so the items cannot be accidentally removed or edited.
Click Icons on the toolbar on the left to access general icon settings. This screen allows you to specify a minimum (Size) and maximum size (Zoom) for all the icons on the dock, as well as the Zoom Width and Zoom Duration. You can also choose the Hover Effect.
The Style section allows you to change the theme for the dock, change the font for the icon labels or disable them, and change the opacity for the outline, shadow, and for the dock itself. Click Get More to go to the official
Adding icons to your dock is easy. You can drag shortcuts from your desktop or files and folders from Windows Explorer and drop them anywhere on the dock, and rearrange the icons by dragging and dropping, also. To remove an icon from the dock, simply drag the icon off the dock to anywhere else.
RocketDock comes with a few icons you can use, but you can download additional icons using the Get More button on the Icon Settings dialog box. There are icon packs available on Deviantart. that include icons for common programs as well as standalone icons for lesser-known programs. You can also find icons on the RocketDock Icons Addons page.
A default stack icon with a down arrow is added to the dock. Clicking on it does nothing initially because you have to add a folder containing program shortcuts, files, or folders. To setup the stack, right-click on the stack icon and select Icon Settings from the popup menu.
NOTE: Once you select a folder, be sure that folder remains in the same location. Otherwise, the Stacks docklet will not be able to find the folder. When you add or remove files from the folder, the changes are reflected on the corresponding stack icon on your dock.
The Icon Settings dialog box displays. Select a folder from the Folders list on the left (if you have more than one folder available) and then select an icon from the Icons box on the right. Click OK.
Select an option by which you want to sort the icons in your stack (Name, Creation time, Last modified time, Last access time, or Kind) from the Sort by drop-down list and how you want the icons displayed when you click the stack on your dock (Automatic, Fan, or Grid) from the Mode drop-down list. Click OK to accept your changes and close the Stacks Docklet dialog box.
You may encounter an issue with getting the Stacks docklet to keep its settings. When you quit RocketDock and then start it again, any Stacks docklets you added to your dock may lose their icons and not display any shortcuts, files, or folders.
